Vegas, Round 2!!

posted by YUMS on Friday, July 29th, 2011

I know its been a while, I've got a whole bunch of lame excuses that I'm not gonna use to why I haven't updated the blog lately… BUT, here it is, I'm gonna start with the Vegas post, which is where I was a few days ago, then I'll just do other posts of where I've gone at random.

So the day before we get to Las Vegas, they tell us we're going to stay in the same hotel as the first time when we came through there, which everyone was cool with…Except Steven. Now, Steven is a unique person. I've never met anyone like him, and I'm not meaning this in a bad way at all. If everyone was stoked to do something, Steven would be the only one against it, it happened quite often. At first it bummed me out, then I realised Steven just has a certain way of doing things and doesn't let anyone get in the way. He has his own sleeping schedule, routine in the morning, and even a specific "caveman" diet where he wont eat bread… But this time particular instead of it bumming everyone out, it worked out in an AWESOME way. You see, because of Steven complaining about that hotel, we got to stay here…

This hotel was so sick! I'm gonna have to say Vegas was one of the most fun stops of the whole trip.

On top of staying in such a sick hotel, we also went to a place right next door to the skatepark that was a trampoline place. The whole inside of the building was covered in trampolines!! It was about the size of a basketball court. The photo doesnt do it justice at all. The walls were even trampolines!! There was also basketball hoops in there, for trampoline basketball, and there was a giant section roped off for dodgeball!!!

We stayed there for about an hour, after getting hit in the face by Binkly and my team losing consistantly, we were ready to get to the strip!!

This time we didn't do as good, I gave back exactly how much money I won last time we were there, and it was at the same casino too. But we did have a blast! Patrick Melcher was with us this time which always adds to the fun.

 ..THANKS STEVEN!!

While walking from the hotel to the strip, I came across this newspaper stand, which turned out to not be a newspaper stand at all… It actually turned out to be something I knew JP, White Tee, and basically anyone else that likes to talk about Victor and his recent experience of getting hit by a giant gay truck, would really enjoy… Victor, this ones for you.

After the night in Vegas, we swam in the GIANT pool at the Hard Rock Hotel, which is where they filmed that reality show "Rehab."

This photo is from HometownHeroes/Melchers instagram, hhskate.

This is the LAST ride with the HH crew…

After Vegas, we headed toward L.A., which is where I am right meow. I have almost healed sprained ankle and am still going to be competing in the HometownHeroes finals at the XGames on Sunday. Peep www.espn3.com, on sunday to watch it live, from 4:30-5:30C/T

Last but not least, I gotta give a shoutout to my woman, Courtney Gould, it's her birthday tomorrow! Everybody wish her a happy birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CG!!

Portland Oregon

posted by YUMS on Sunday, June 5th, 2011

I've been lagging on posting this one, we've had a lot going on and haven't had much hotel lurkin' time for me to get this done. Pretextos, pretextos…

Not to get all soft on you but the scenery in Oregon is amazing! Mountains everywhere!

I also have Instagram now so my iphone photos look way cooler than they should, if you have an iphone you should definitely get that app, it changes lives… Like Jesus.

While at the couch tour, I talked to this kid for a little bit that had a pretty torn up board, he seemed really cool and wanted to skate so I hooked him up with one of mine. I cant skate anyways so atleast somebody gets to right?

When we weren't at the Zumiez couch tour or out skating, we spent some time in this place. The mean looking bald guy right there is Shak, our tour manager. He really good at pool. I won the first game, got my confidence built, then he asked to bet on the next one… which I lost. Then instead of learning from my mistakes I bet 2 more times.

I now owe him $20 and a milkshake from a restaurant of his choice.

Here's a random photo of my new biggest fear in the world. If you've been keeping up with this blog you'll understand why looking at this gave me chills… the wound could've been worse I guess.

On our last night there we went to hangout with one of Shaks friends, where we played more pool. This is Pat Binkly, if you've never met him and you saw this photo of him in a purple coat holding a rabbit, you'd be surprised to know he's not gay. There's never a dull moment around Binkly…

Shout out to Red Bull for keeping us all hyped on this trip.

As we left Oregon and headed toward San Francisco, we decided to stop at a few spots and skate in Eugene, OR. One of them very famous for us skaters, I've been seeing it in videos since I was really young.

The other isn't for most people. Only a few tricks has been done. Steven killed both spots that day by getting never before done tricks on those spots and only racking himself 3 times..

He grinded through the WHOLE thing!

Everytime I talk to people from home they're always telling me to make sure I document EVERYTHING. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of it.

Here's more Instagrammed Oregon scenery..

Headed to San Francisco..

I should have a post of SF up sometime Monday!!

Seattle!

posted by YUMS on Monday, May 30th, 2011

Its my first time to Seattle, and just like every other city seems to be… "it was one of my favorites." There was tons on snow-covered mountains everywhere, which most of us texans don't get to see very often.

The day we got here we went to see "Hangover 2." I've been waiting to see it and expecting them to completely ruin it by making a sequel and it being terrible, but I think I actually liked it better than the first one!

Here's a photo of Zack Galajflkdsjlksghlkas after he gets his head shaved in the movie.

And here's a photo of my homie Pat Ascherl, his evil twin..

The next day was the first stop of the Zumiez Couch Tour. Its always a good time going to this event every year. Usually I skate in it, but this year I got to judge it! Its always weird seeing all the 13-17 yr olds running around with mohawks, spray paint on their face, and neon colored clothes… but the skate contest and pro demo is always sick.

Here's a sneak peak of the park for everyone that plans to skate it this year and it hasnt gotten to your town yet…

Patrick Melcher as the announcer…

After the contest we went with all the Zumiez people and the Toy Machine team to a restaurant in Tacoma, WA. called Harmon. Had a huge, delicious meal all paid for by Zumiez.

Here's a creeper-style zoomed in photo of the Toy Machine team: Leo Romero, Johnny Layton, Josh Harmony, Collin Provost, Matt Bennett, and Jordan Taylor.

Last we finished our night at a billiard/kareoke bar. I've always been against the idea of kareoke, but I'm not gonna lie, I had a blast…

Here's a random photo; Pat Binkly drew a portrait of me in my arm sling in under 2 minutes.

And last but not least, I've been getting a lot of people asking how my armpit is doing… not a question I ever expected to have to answer in my life, I mean how often do you really wanna know about someones armpits?! Anyways, here's a photo of how the stitchez are doing.

Portland Couch Tour today!!

Vegas Baby!!

posted by YUMS on Friday, May 27th, 2011

The last couple days I've been taking it easy trying to not move my arm too much. Been having a lot of mental ups and downs from being on a "skate trip" but not actually being allowed to skate. So I'm slowly adapting to living life with one arm, where things like tying your shoe, peeing, putting dreads in a ponytail, and changing clothes becomes very difficult.

One thing that really helped me feel a whole lot better though is the Las Vegas stop, of course. It's hard to be bummed when you're in Vegas.(that is unless you just gambled away your savings, kids college fund, kid, life, etc.)

Before we got to Vegas I ran into some RedBull girls and told them how I was on the Dallas team but was completely out and fiending for some, so they kindly hooked us up with 5 cases :)

When we got to Vegas, first thing I noticed was that there was a In-N-Out Burger RIGHT outside my window! I havent had In-N-Out in years, and I keep seeing people talking about eating at the new Dallas one, that happens to open up when i leave, so I was stoked to see this giant sign in my window.

Also, my good friend Steve happened to be in Vegas the same night we were!

And here's photos from the rest of the nights adventures…

I won 50 free spins on the Sun&Moon game!

I flaunt the ticket like I won a lot, but if you could read it you'd see it only says $40. The real winner was birthday boy, Trevor, on the far right side. He won $300 that night. $200 of it was off of one dollar.

This morning grabbed our stuff and got back in the van and headed toward Seattle,WA. We made it 12 of the 19 hours today and decided to stop for the night. I am now in Baker City, Oregon. We'll wake up at 9am and finish the drive, we have a Zumiez couch tour event tomorrow right when we get there.

Saving this bush from dehydration in the hot desert at one of the many stops we had on the 12 hr drive today…

Steven also cares about nature.

Snow!

Hoes are people too.

This is Patrick, the trooper that drove the whole 12 hours without switching drivers.

8Hrs at the Hospital.

posted by YUMS on Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

CAUTION: IF YOU CANT HANDLE PICS OF BLOOD OR OPEN WOUNDS DONT READ THIS POST!!!

Yesterday started out really relaxing, woke up and swam and slept by the pool for a few hrs.

Then we discovered our hotel has a putt-putt course!!!

Then we went skating. We went to a spot I've always seen in videos and couldn't wait to finally get to skate.

I went to the spot with 2 tricks in mind that I really wanted to film. First trick came pretty fast, so I started working on another one. After a few tries, I was already getting close to landing it and just needed that right catch and I could roll away..

As I was getting ready to drop-in again I was walking across the top of the bank and my foot slipped down the side of it. Theres a small, steel bar fence along the top of the bank I tried to grab onto, but missed it and I came down right over one of the steel bars and it pierced through my armpit and stabbed through a couple inches. It didn't hurt, I had alot of adrenaline going and literally thought I just scratched the top of my ribs on it a little. Then I noticed a hole in my shirt, and when I opened the hole I saw this…

The black fence behind my shoulder in the background is the murder weapon/killer.

I was pretty bummed because right when I saw it all I could think about is stitches and not skating for the next couple weeks of the tour. Steven Farmer was trying a pretty epic trick over the bump and I didnt wanna ruin that for him so he tried a few more times and rolled away. You guys will go crazy when you saw what he did!

So then we go to the hospital, we waited in the waiting room for 3 hrs before i got a room. Then, we decided to take some photos before they closed it up.

I also have a video of the guy cleaning it out which will be posted on my facebook today ;)

While sitting in the room I had several nurses come in saying they "googled me" and looked up videos on youtube haha. Also, during the 5 hours of sitting in my hospital bed, I got to watch Forgetting Sarah Marshall and even talked to KeChaud on the phone while the doctor was sewing me up.

That big red square is the outline of the square pole!

And the nurse even hooked this sling up for free ;)

8 hours later…Holla!

Tulsa to Phoenix

posted by YUMS on Monday, May 23rd, 2011

2 days ago we did the contest in Tulsa, Oklahoma. (the toothbrush of America)

Afterwards we went to Chipotle, where I ate my 15th meal from Chipotle on this trip! (still seems to taste amazing though)

Then we decided to start heading towards Arizona. We stopped in Amarillo to sleep, so I was able to feel somewhat at home being in Texas for a night.

This morning we woke up and got back on the road headed west, and stopped at a weird/awesome travel stop, it had EVERYTHING, from Yoda's, to subway, to a 1950's car museum.

#2 with the door open.

It was an 11hr. drive from Amarillo to Pheonix, anyone that knows me, knows I have Narcolepsy, so the trip only really seemed like 3 hrs because I was in the back of the van asleep in all the luggage the whole entire trip.

We are now in Tempe, AZ, right outside of Phoenix, where we will be the next 2 days. We already skated a spot tonight and I got 3 good clips! Hopefully the pattern continues…

Next stop, Vegas on the 25th!!

10 Hour Drive…

posted by YUMS on Saturday, May 21st, 2011

We left Indianapolis today and drove 10 hours to Tulsa, OK. On the way, we stopped in St. Louis and I surprisingly had one of the funnest sessions on the trip!

We went to a spot that is alot like a place called 'Burnside' in Portland, OR. This place is much smaller, but it is built completely by skateboarders and its also under a bridge just like Burnside. The name of this place is, (excuse my french) "Shitside."

I was so stoked to urinate on that stenciled urinal.

Here's a few photos of the masterpiece the locals have put together over the last 2 years…

From what I've heard locals at Burnside wont let people who arent from there skate, or they'll make you buy them cases of beer to skate. One of the guys on the tour even told me a story of a rollerblader getting stuck in the bowl, and a bunch of locals pissed all over him and he couldnt get out cause the transition, and himself, were both covered in urine. This place however, despite the name, has some of the most welcoming locals ever, I was surprised they let 7 guys they didn't know just roll in and film like that. Southern hospitality I guess…

I also wanna give a shout out to our homie and filmer Adam Mills, he lives in Chicago but chose to represent the Rangers today.

We're either going to stay in Tulsa one more night, or head to Phoenix, AZ tomorrow. Long drive ahead!

Hometown Does Indianapolis

posted by YUMS on Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Today we went from Chicago to Indianapolis.. Here's a photo of the Hometown Heroes Van that we're traveling in. Its tall enough for my 6 foot tall self to stand up in!

The tour is also sponsored by Chipotle so we get it free. I've now eaten there 9 times in almost a full week. We did the math on how much we'll eat it by the end of the trip at the rate were going and it should be around 150. Kinda sketchy having 8 dudes ride in a van together eating chipotle everyday… I still havent gotten tired of it yet though!!

…but thats probably the reason I'm so sick right now. Been coughing out these bad boys all day..
